Understand the Relationship map in your organisation

Every Kudos given during a Hawen exercise shows a relation between two people. It goes from one person to another, and the words used indicates how strong and personal the relation is.
We use this information to create the Relationship map. Use the outcome to analyse your group. – Does the map reflect your organization?

Star pattern
A strong “star pattern” shows that there are a few individuals that everybody turns to. This could be positive in terms of quickly spreading information in the organization, but also negative as the star often becomes a bottleneck. The organization is also woundable if the central people suddenly will not be available.
We use the approach of L. Freeman to define how centralized the map is, i.e. the star pattern.

Fragmentation
Depending on your organisation, it is often natural that clusters of people are visible. But there might also be clusters within a organizational group that should be working together. If such clusters appear, this is likely to impact the cooperation and needed information sharing in the group.
With the help of the Gini-Simpson algorithm we evaluate how fragmented the organization is.

Lonely islands
Temporary lonely islands may be natural when people are new into the organisation. But, if they remain lonely too long, it will have severe impact on morale and personal well-being.
It’s fairly easy to identify the lonely islands – people who have very few incoming relations.
